We have some exciting news to share.
Global Design News, the international publication covering the most innovative products in architecture and design, just published a feature on the KOMBU Fermenstation. For a company built on the belief that home fermentation deserves better tools, being recognized by a design publication of that caliber means a great deal.

KOMBU: The Smart Home Brewer Bringing Ancient Fermentation into the Modern Age
What Global Design News Said
The piece captures something we have been working hard to express since day one: that the Fermenstation is not just a functional appliance, but a genuine reinvention of how people interact with fermentation at home.
Global Design News described the Fermenstation as "the first modern kombucha brewer designed for the home," and called out how it transforms a process that has traditionally been messy, unpredictable, and cluttered into something "intuitive, elegant, and enjoyable." They also noted that the design draws inspiration from minimalist architecture, with a monolithic presence that feels "more at ease among gallery pieces than kitchen clutter."
That is exactly what we were going for.
They also highlighted the Good Design Award the Fermenstation received from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. That recognition, alongside coverage like this, reinforces that the design world is paying attention to what is happening in the fermented foods space.
Why We Built the Fermenstation
If you have ever tried to brew kombucha at home, you know the drill. A glass jar covered in a cloth. Ambient temperature you cannot control. No way to know if your ferment is on track until you open it and find out it is not. Countertop space held hostage for weeks.
We built the Fermenstation because we lived that experience ourselves and knew it did not have to be that way.
The Fermenstation replaces guesswork with precision. Its low-heat, temperature-controlled system holds fermentation at a consistent 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit, the sweet spot for producing great kombucha reliably, batch after batch. The companion mobile app lets you set timers, monitor temperature in real time, and get notified when your brew needs attention. You stay in control without having to hover over a jar in your kitchen.
And because fermentation happens inside a fully enclosed dual-chamber system, you are not leaving a cloth-covered container sitting out to attract dust, bacteria, or unwanted guests.
Precision Engineering Meets Considered Design
The Fermenstation was designed by us, Michael Churchill and Natalia Amijo, combining backgrounds in automotive and industrial design with years of hands-on brewing experience. The goal was never to make a gadget. It was to make a tool that earns a permanent spot on your counter because it works beautifully and looks like it belongs there.
Inside the compact enclosure, you will find a brewing jar, four carbonation bottles, thermal insulation, sensors, and the electronics that tie everything together. Premium materials throughout. An app that handles the complexity so you do not have to.
The result is a home fermentation appliance that can sit beside your espresso machine or your favorite cookbooks and not look out of place.
The Bigger Picture: Fermentation as a Modern Wellness Practice
Kombucha has gone from a niche health-food store find to a fixture at grocery chains, cafes, and kitchen countertops across the country. That shift reflects something real: people are paying attention to gut health, to what they consume, and to the value of making things themselves.
Store-bought kombucha is expensive. A good bottle runs $4 to $6, and if you are drinking it regularly, the cost adds up fast. Brewing your own with the Fermenstation costs a fraction of that per batch and gives you complete control over flavor, carbonation, and ingredients.
But the real value is the connection to what you are making. There is something deeply satisfying about fermenting your own food. The Fermenstation does not shortcut that feeling. It just removes the friction that has kept most people from sticking with it.
Ready to Start Brewing?
The KOMBU Fermenstation is available now. If you have been curious about home kombucha brewing but hesitant about the learning curve or the mess, this is what we built it for.
We are proud to be recognized by Global Design News, and even more proud of the brewers who are already using the Fermenstation to make something delicious.
